Happy 40th Birthday Woodstock. I say birthday because on those historic three days in August of '69 the spirit of a new generation was born. Some of those children born would be infused with the spirit , some merely colored by it but all would be a testament to the freedom of the era.
I am such a child. Born in May of '69 it would take 36 years before the spirit of the Artist would take hold. The spirit of living life authentically, unhampered by expectations. Unfettered by dogma and preconceptions. Of maturing yet being able to let the child within lead the way,"a child shall lead them". To let innocence rule and not the cynicism of " growing up ".
The flower children unintentionally, guided only by spirit were forging ahead to that undiscovered country of peace, love and spiritual fulfillment that was foreign to the generation that they were leaving behind. But would resonate into generations to come starting with my own, Generation X.
Despite the previous decade of civil unrest, the unsavory taste of war, the fiscal downturn and the lack of political leadership. They banded together thru the gift of art to bring the light. A lesson the country still hasn't learned well enough as throughout the nation art programs in school have been essentially deemed unneccesary. Art the gift to mankind. The gift that moves the soul.
Many have tried to recreate the event. Many have failed. Woodstock can be best compared to chicken soup. Easy enuff to recreate, but remembering that each bowl has it's own essence. And like at the country fair the bowl that has the best kick wins the blue ribbon. In thier attempt to recreate Woodstock they forgot it's essence. I would dare say that avarice made the decisions. They didn't know light the candle, ring the bell, open the book. They didn't know magic and the spirit that it calls forth.
It was magic that called forth the spirit of Woodstock '69. A magic that an astrologer knows intimately. Astrology at the time was the undercurrent within the flower child / hippie culture. Case and point the song at the time was "Aquarius, let the sun shine". Now before one starts to think of magic as the hocus pocus of lore , let me derail you immediately. I'm speaking of the magic of the spirit. We as a people speak of spirit but do not , KNOW spirit. We say," his spirit is broken", " she was moved by the spirit", " his spirit has left him".
But do you " remember the spirit " , specifically yours. Do you live " true to the spirit ". To many the spirit is simply too foriegn a concept to fathom. Akin to the metaphysical , calculus, nuclear physics and lumped into the category of " too much to wrap my brain around". When you think of spirit, harmony should come to mind. Harmony is associated with peace, "Rest in the spirit".
It was this harmony of spirit that allowed a generation to be loose. " Let it all hang loose". To go with the flow even though the event was " poorly" planned. They went there with the idea of fellowship, botherhood , Robin and all his merry men. Knowing that the journey was more important than the destination.
It is imperative that the Generations to come are taught the value of remembering thier spirit. To know though we may all walk upon the same road. That there are some paths each man Must walk alone. Be true to your Ptah / path. Then perhaps this nation will start to understand it's true wealth is in it's people.
Peace, love and happiness I call upon the spirit of '69 to usher in a new age. May the Golden years of Woodstock be a gateway to the prosperity of enlightenment to the spirit. One Love.
